I was never much of a reader before starting this journey. My ADD wouldn’t allow me to really focus on what I was reading. When I broke up with my ex, I was on cloud 9 for about 2 weeks, just happy to be out of a toxic relationship and feel freedom. After that initial euphoria, I started to realize I was slipping back into my anxious state, thinking about the future and what comes next. I knew I needed to really work on myself. No one is coming to save me. I needed to learn how to help myself, so I went on google and searched “self-help books”. That’s the first step. There are thousands of these self-help books out there that are actually really easy to read. I thought it was going to be boring but I was actually intrigued. My advice is to make fixing your mental health an ongoing goal. I wanted to feel better, I was so sick and tired of living with anxiety that I had absolutely no control over. This made reading the books something I looked forward to, the more I read, the better I was going to be. My mental health drastically changed after reading the first book, I had hope again. I could breathe better, think more clearly, and had a different outlook on life. The best part, there’s still so many more books I plan on reading, still so much more I can learn. I will share with you what I have read, with a detailed synopsis of each book so even if you don’t read the book, you can read what I have shared and still take something from it. This will be good for me too, to re-read the books I started with a year ago and get some inspiration back.
